Last night was cultural evening number 28 and the penultimate one for this year, a debut trip to the Bournemouth O2 Academy (which is actually in Boscombe) for our second Divine Comedy gig of the year. Boscombe's a funny place, seemed stuck in a timewarp (they even had a DVD rental shop!) and we were struggling to find somewhere to eat (not a pub to be seen) but then came across a lovely little Brasserie called Chaplin's (dedicated to Charlie) where the food, atmosphere and staff were all lovely.
The Academy was a lovely venue and we managed to grab a spot on the barriers at the front. Support was from an Irish Female singer-songwriter called "Jealous of the Birds" and she was excellent, I'm downloading her album as I type! Neil and the boys came on at 9 and treated us to a fantastic 2 hour set with a fair few changes from February's gig, including my favourite song of theirs "Don't Look Down". Neil had a bad throat when we saw them in London but last night he was on fine form, very playful and as always funny and his current band are wonderful. over size wedding wears in mermaid trumpet style
