WHY AHTA ORO SNUBBED NSIMA EKERE
• Honoured Gov Emmanuel As Pillar Of Oro Nation
• NDDC MD'S N10m Tip Rejected

Facts finally have emerged on why the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Obong Nsima Ekere, was no longer honoured with a chieftaincy during the coronation of Ahta Oro, held at Oro Civic Center in Oron at the weekend.

At the well-attended coronation of the Ahta Oro, HRM Ovong Edet Isemin, Ahta Oro V11, Governor Udom Emmanuel was conferred with the royal honour as Ubei-Adai, (Pillar of Oro Nation), as Stakeholders of Oro Nation took turns to pour encomiums on the governor, thanking him for his commitments to developing the Oro Nation after several years of yearnings.

Governor Emmanuel was among great sons of Akwa Ibom State, honoured by the Oro monarch in recognition of their individual concerns and contributions to the growth and development of Oro Nation.

An inside reliable source among Oron Stakeholders who pleaded anonymity revealed that Mr. Ekere was involved in intense lobbying to be honoured with a traditional feather by the highest monarch in Oro nation and spent over N10million through his allies and party men to get the recognition.

Mr. Ekere who had come to the occasion dressed in Oro traditional attire and beaming with smiles in expectations, was given repeated assurances by the middlemen that he was going to be honoured alongside others, after collecting the money from him.

Our source maintained that the disappointment did not only affect the former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, but also the eminent Nigerians on his convoy that comprised the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, critical stakeholders in the All Progressive Congress (APC) from Akwa Ibom State and beyond, professional and office colleagues, and other well-wishers who turned up en masse at the venue to celebrate with the real estate guru who was clad in a traditional Oro attire. cheap evening dresses

Giving categorical details, the source disclosed that at a point before the coronation, it was decided that Nsima Ekere who only remembers Oro people in critical moment of personal need should not have forced himself on the occasion.

By all standards, they considered it improper and insulting to place the controversial MD of the NDDC and embattled fair-weather politician on the same pedestal with the Governor of the State who has scored high at every front of decent deeds.

It was further reasoned that even though Ekere may have lobbied his way into the hearts of some APC members who are also indigenes of Oro Nation, his main aim has always been to score cheap political point among the generality of Oro Nation and therefore did not deserve any traditional title.

The source who also expressed some personal disappointment over the incident told our reporter that what may have added salt to injury was the possibility that Mr. Ekere was given repeated assurances perhaps by a section of some APC members who were in the planning committee and were looking forward to having their 'pay-master' publicly honoured by a respectable traditional institution.

Of course, when names of honourees were announced, Nsima Ekere's name was conspicuously missing. Some therefore had wondered why he even had to come in the first place when he had not gotten any clearance from the organizers of the event.

Nsima Ekere's countenance also portrayed his state of mind in the thick of that disappointment.

Oro stakeholders however appreciated the governor for the rare recognition and honour done Oro people by the recent and historic appointment of the Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem as Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom State.

The people therefore unanimously assured the governor of 100% votes come 2019.
